Dear "colleagues in faith" :-), there is only one way to change the things with this immigration trap - we have to win the public opinion!
Currently 350,000 highly qualified professionals working for this country are in a legal limbo which continues for years. Our current legal status is that of slaves. Yes, slaves! Nowadays it takes anywhere between 5 - 10 years from applying to receiving of a GC. We cannot change our employers within this period, the members of our families cannot work (at least legally) and our spouses lose their professional carrier; if our kids get in college they are treated as "aliens" (full tuition, no student loans, no scholarship); the loans we get are with higher interest rate (for "protection"); at the borders we are treated as "intruders" etc.
The average Americans are honest hardworking people. If they are aware of the immigration problems faced by 350,000 hardworking professionals in this country, they will raise their voice and will help for resolving of this issue. They just need to know that. I believe that in addition to talking to senators etc., we have to find ways our issues to reach the media - newspapers, magazines and so on. An article in Times may lead to a lot of positive changes in the immigration system.

Don't point to websites, its just too much reading and the HR might get the illusion that the process involves too much work whereas its not that bad..
I was in similar situation five years ago, all I did was during my final interview with HR I requested them and was able to refer an attorney. The attorney did a good job of preparing the documents and providing rosy sticky tags for HR's signature. That made HR's and manager's life so easy. In return, I'm the medium between my attorney and HR. So, you will have to sell it to HR and engg. manager that "its no big deal"....

I had sent my passport for renewal and Indian Embassy lost it. It had my I-94 and US visa. They issued a new passport. But the new passport read old passport cancelled and returned.

Some countries require transit visa like UK for even changing flight but going through Germany do not require such a visa for EAD holders, you should contact the local consulate for B-1 holders.

The PD shows up on the approval notice of I140. I don't know if it shows up on the 485 as I haven't seen one and won't see one for years. But it makes sense to have the PD on the I140 as once the I140 is approved you can port that PD (if employer does not revoke it)

Thank you everyone for the contributions. While have still not met our target, we need to continue this funding drive for some time. We have to pay several outstanding bills associated with this event. It can only be done if all members contribute. Get your Green and be happy bud !! USCIS is a black hole. There is no queue, no FIFO and no accountability. I would rather pay them extra $1290 if they can guarantee that my app would be approved in a specific time frame. I hate to dial that number and talk to those inefficient unskilled IO's and customer service people.

you did a masters here.......so you can go to canada or mexico also...it will not be any issue if you all the paper work of your masters correct
