So... this is just a thread to see who all will not be on the forums on the day of the keynote to avoid any spoilers. I know its a small crowd, but it will certainly require a heavy amount of discipline to not check any news website or mac website or even the apple store. Sort of just checking who's all in? I've subscribed the MacRumors Spoiler Free Page (http://www.macrumors.com/2008/01/10/mwsf-2008-spoiler-free-keynote-stream/) w/ Keynote link (so i can be emailed the link when it comes out).

So.. Who else is checking out Tuesday to watch the Keynote stream (however late it may come online)?

The SL disc you have may not have the version of OS X needed for your MBA. MBA shipped after SL was released this e.g. 10.6.0 may not work. Call Apple and ask them to send you a replacement installation media, it shouldn't cost more than 20$ or so.

    Also, http://guides.macrumors.com/Mac_doesn't_boot

Can anyone confirm what disk or version of SL I need to do a clean install? This shouldnt be this hard to find out, I cant be the only one wanting to do a clean install of OS X without the USB thingy.

I think buying an Imac will be one of the best purchases you could ever make. Certainly one that will never forget, once you go mac you will never go back.

    10/10

Can anyone give me the right amount to Partition off for Windows XP+Bootcamp+Games?
    Thanks in advance...
    K.

Hmmm. Well, if you just wanted XP and basic apps, crikey, 10GB would probably be enough (provided you wouldn't have GBs of e-mail in Outlook or something). 15 or 20 would be safer.

But you add games and, well, it all depends on how many and which games. An average graphical game these days is 4GB minimum. Dragon Age: Origins is 17GB! So, 60GB could be plenty, but you put 4 or 5 games on there at 7GB a piece, and factoring in at least 15% free space for good measure, 60GB could feel snug pretty quickly.
So, 60GB isn't a bad answer, and you can change it later on with the help of Winclone and Disk Utility partition resizing without reformatting OSX partition, but try to get an idea of which games you know or think you will install and how much space they take up.

    Cheers.

(And why XP and no Win 7?! ;) )

    Thanks for all the replies.

I don't mind spending the $99 to get a developer license, I just didn't want to do it if I couldn't do what I needed to do.

We already have a website/twitter/facebook, I just wanted to cover all bases and an app seemed like the next step.

I assume you have system 7 on there?

Try holding down the SHIFT key at startup, that will turn of the extensions. i.e. screen saver loading and should get you in there to disable it

The "right" amount is a bit subjective. WinXP requires 1.5GB of space, but you'll also need room for additional hardware drivers, room for temporary space/virtual memory, and room for games. You'll need to consider how much space your games will need. On my 500GB HDD, I partitioned off 100GB. It's not nearly enough for all the games in my library, but it allows me to have several of them installed while running Win 7.

However, I don't think there's a right answer that anyone other than you can provide. Also, read the Bootcamp message and make sure it supports WinXP. I know the 2011 MBPs do not.

If you donate directly to the organizations involved (Red Cross etc) I can't imagine they'll be taking a cut...can they??

They live off of the donations themselves. It may be called Administative costs or something else but they take a cut for themselves. I think 15% is about average.

The product that Larry reviewed can be found here: http://www.thehishop.com/

They have the back oleo protectors but the front cutout is a single opening and not separate cutouts.

As a side note, when SGP first released their oleophobic protectors they were separate cutouts and somewhere down the line they decided to switch to a single cutout (not sure why).

Lau, you need QuickTime 7 to view H.264 content.

Depending on the type of content, change your codec to something like Sorenson Video 3 you'll take a size hit, but it should work fine.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks iGav, I didn't even realise it was H.264. :o Although that would make sense. I'll give it a try, and update the thread as to whether it works or not. Ta!

I used to be a professional musician and recently decided to get back into doing some demo tracks. I have an fully loaded MacBook Pro with Garage Band. I took the GarageBand course, bought a little M-Audio Keyboard and procuced two original tunes; great! Now however, I want to go a bit further so I went into B&H Electronics in NYC and bought the Tascam (model above). The sales person told me that I would be able to plug my Yamaha and Kruzweil keyboards into the unit and that the voices from these instruments could be recorded into GarageBand. Same with the microphone and my harmonic decoder. So far, the only thing I have bee able to do is record my Ovation Guitar. I cannot get the device to recognize my keyboards or my microphone. I am ready to return it. Does anyone out there have any experience on how to make this device work?

    Thank you for your responses.
